Jill Heuser is the soapmaking artist behind Northwest Scents. Northwest Scents grew out of one womans dream for quality, gentle and unique bath and body products. Jills goal is to use the highest quality ingredients available to create the finest selection of bath and body products possible. Using exotic butters, oils and other natural ingredients to nourish and pamper her customers. Northwest Scents has quickly become a local favorite. She creates products in her spare time when she is not wrangling her three energetic kids. Jill has been making bath & body products for 8 years and has taught at Otion for the last 4. With her degree in Biology, shes a natural at explaining the chemistry behind lotion making. Debbie Chialtas is the creative artist behind Soapylove. Hailing from the happy state of California, Debbie started Soapylove while pregnant with her first child. She was looking for the perfect cocoa butter lotion recipe, and stumbled upon glycerin soapmaking. With a BFA in Fashion Design from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, Debbie fell in love with the colors and scents that soapmaking had to offer. With her experience in custom wedding gowns and children's clothing, making soapy creations that were unique, labor intensive, and unlike any others on the market was a snap. Debbie will be coming to OTION with her fabulous 9 month old daughter Althea, and is excited to teach two soap classes at our Soapmaking Weekend Intensive: 1. Making Alien Soaps Debbie's soapy projects have been seen in Brides, Pregnancy & Newborn, and the DIY Network Craft Lab. She is also the first glycerin soap crafter to be an Etsy featured artist. You won't want to miss Debbie sharing her secrets on making gorgeous soap. Feel free to visit Debbie's web site along with her Etsy Store. Pick up a few of her creations before the class and prepare to be inspired by this talented soap artist. Paula Kates is owner, artist and CEO of PJ Soaps. With an extensive background in Linguistic Philosophy, Paula left behind 11 years in the administrative world of the performing arts, first at Milwaukee's Florentiine Opera, then with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and eventually cutting out on her own and turning her love of art towards soap making. By popular demand, after two years obsessing over her new soapmaking hobby, with the aid and support of her partner and strong man, Jan Dyke, she turned that hobby into a registered business. Paula has been making Melt and Pour soap since 2003 recently winning "Best Soap" at the 2007 ISOCAN soapmaker's convention in the Chicago area and has been aiming for mastery of the art form ever since. We are excited to have Paula teaching the following two classes at OTION: 1. Making Detailed Sea Shell Soaps - see examples Each bar of PJ Soaps is a one-of-a-kind natural, useful and aroma-therapeutic work of art. Her soap bases are some of the finest and most moisturizing we've located in the world. No dyes, detergents or animal products are used in the making of PJ Soaps. She specializes in decorative theme soaps, custom orders and elegant, personalized gift baskets which are meant to make stunning presentations and turn the everyday showering experience into a luxurious, aroma-therapeutic event. In addition to teaching, Alicia is busy running her soap company Annabella and Co. and works as an in demand speaker/author.
