All this back to school shopping and fall fashion make for some extra laundry!
It’s time to make some laundry soap!
Coconut oil is very cleansing and works great for laundry. You wouldn’t want to use this soap directly on your skin because of its amazing cleansing ability, it can be incredibly drying. However, this makes for a perfect laundry soap!
The recipe we used was:
38oz Coconut Oil
10oz Distilled Water
6.9oz Sodium Hydroxide
1.5oz Lime Essential Oil
1.5oz Lemongrass Essential Oil
The essential oil blend turned the soap a pale yellow, and it took a few more minutes to bring everything to trace. Once in the mold I let it sit out on the counter over night. It did crack, probably due to the amount of heat from the saponification process. But it was super hard and ready to unmold.
Being that it was so hard, I wanted to get it shredded right away. All you need to use is a regular cheese grater! What an arm workout!
Then I added the rest of the ingredients together.
6oz Sodium Carbonate
2oz Citric Acid
8oz Shredded Soap
Mix! Mix! Mix!
The best part is you only need 2 tablespoons per load and it works great in High Efficiency washers too!
